Woman burnt in gas cylinder explosion, succumbs to her injuries

Own representative, Dhaka, December 10: Housewife Shanta Khanam, who suffered grave injuries following a gas cylinder explosion, succumbed to her wounds. Earlier, her husband and two children died in the same accident at Muktarpur in Sadar upazila of Munshiganj district. She died on Thursday (December 9) morning while undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Shanta Khanam was the wife of Kawsar Khan of Boyla Khan Bari in Kishoreganj district headquarters.

Shanta Khanam's two children Yasin Khan (5) and Fatema Nohra Khanam (3) died while undergoing treatment at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 9:30 pm on Thursday (December 2) last week. Later on Saturday (December 4) morning, Shanta's husband Kauser Khan died while undergoing treatment at the same hospital.

Shanta Khanam's husband Kawsar Khan was the son of Abdus Salam Khan, a resident of Boyla Khan Bari in Kishoreganj district. He was working as a welder in Abul Khair Group of Munshiganj.

According to Kawsar's relatives, he lived with his wife and children on the second floor of a building in Muktarpur area. An explosion took place at their home last Thursday morning. Five people, including four members of Kawsar's family, were burnt while sleeping.

His body was brought to Boalia area of Kawsar Khan's village home last Saturday evening. The bodies of her two children were brought the day before. The body of Shanta Khanam was brought on Thursday. Shanta was buried with her two children and husband in the same cemetery.

Abdul Qayyum Khan, elder brother of the deceased Kawsar Khan, said that Kawsar had been living in a rented house in Muktarpur area of Munshiganj Sadar Upazila for 10 years due to his job. Kauser worked as a river transport engineer in Abul Khair's group.
