Women's Day: PM calls for equal participation of men-women in overall development of country

Dhaka, March 8: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has emphasized the need for women to be more involved in the country's development process.

She said that the overall development of the country requires equal participation of both men and women.

The Prime Minister said these at a function organized today (Friday, March 8) on the occasion of International Women's Day.

The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs organized the programme at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

Prime Minister conferred the 'Best Joy Award-2023' at the event. Five women received this award at the national level in recognition of achieving success in various fields by facing various obstacles and challenges.

The five awardees are- Anar Koli (economics) from Mymensingh, Kalyani Minji (education and employment) from Rajshahi, Komoli Robi Dash (successful mother) from Moulvibazar, Jahanara Begum (repression prevention) from Barguna and Pakhi Dutta Hijra (social development) from Khulna.

The Prime Minister said, "If we want to progress economically, men and women of the country should work equally. Because half of society's manpower is women."

She said, "We can move forward only if women and men work equally. Today we are moving forward; Because, we have ensured the participation of women."

The PM said that his party is the only political party in the country, which has mentioned equal rights of men and women in the constitution and manifesto.

Sheikh Hasina said, "Not just to say, Awami League came to power and implemented it."

The Prime Minister said that her government has created opportunities, but women have to come forward.

"Don't stay at home. Because women have to do a lot of work for the society too," she addressed the women here.
