Own correspondent, Dhaka, 16 August 2023: Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has commented that Ziaur Rahman is intimately involved in the murder of 15 August. She said this in the president's speech at the commemoration meeting organized by Awami League on the 48th anniversary of Bangabandhu's martyrdom at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center on Wednesday, August 16 afternoon.

Sheikh Hasina said, "Murderers changed the name of Bangladesh with the killing of Bangabandhu. It declared as an Islamic republic. Bangladesh changed the name of Betar to Radio Bangladesh. It changed the slogan of JaiBangla and brought the slogan of Zindabad. It is history that distorts. All the dreams of development of the people of Bangladesh are stopped. Murderer Mushtaq declared himself president, made Zia army chief. Ziaur Rahman was intimately involved in the murder. Just as Mir Jafar could not last more than three months. Neither could Mushtaq. Zia seized power. Urdi later ascended to power and later established himself as a politician. They also tried to do it. The army broke the rules and conducted a presidential election. The vote rigging and vote theft started from there. Then the party called BNP did it."

She said, August 15 is the most scandalous chapter in the life of the Bengali nation. The saddest incident in independent Bangladesh. On that day, the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his entire family were killed by an assassin's bullet. In history, such a horrible incident happened on the soil of Bengal. It also beats the events of Karbala.

President of Awami League and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over it and General Secretary of the party Obaidul Quader gave the opening speech.

Awami League Advisory Council Member Amir Hossain Amu, Presidium Member Sheikh Fazlul Karim Salim, Joint General Secretary Dr. Dipu Moni, Organizing Secretary SM Kamal Hossain, Executive Member Advocate Tarana Halim, Dhaka Metropolitan South Branch General Secretary Humayun Kabir, North General Secretary SM Mannan gave a short speech.

Awami League Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap and Deputy Publicity and Publication Secretary Abdul Awal Shamim moderated.
