10 half-melted bodies recovered from sinking trawler in Cox's Bazar

Dhaka, April 24: Ten half-melted bodies were recovered from the cold storage (special place of keeping fish) of a sinking fishing trawler in Cox's Bazar. Locals noticed the bodies while checking the cold storage after the nameless trawler sunk in the Bay of Bengal was brought to the Nazirartek coast of Cox's Bazar.

Station in-charge of Cox's Bazar Fire Service, Monayem Billah, said that half-melted bodies of 10 people were recovered from the trawler till 3:30 pm on Sunday.

Councilor SI Akhtar Kamal of Ward No. 1 of Cox's Bazar Municipality said that the trawler was partially submerged in the sea. Later, the trawler was towed by another trawler in a special arrangement and brought to the bank of Nazirertek estuary early on Saturday morning. When checking the cold storage in the evening after low tide, human feet are found. Then the police was informed. At night, police from Sadar PS came to the spot. The bodies were recovered from Sunday morning with the help of fire service personnel. One does not know well who is half-melted.

Chittagong Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Anwar Hossain said on Monday that multiple teams of police are working to unravel the trawler sinking incident. The culprits will be brought to justice by quickly uncovering the mystery of the murder.

The DIG said that so far four of the 10 dead have been identified by their relatives. The rest are yet to be identified.

He said, the DNA sample of the bodies will be kept for identification. Attempts are being made to identify the bodies by talking to the relatives.
