Dhaka, Jan 19: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal said that the 12th National Parliament elections were not very participatory. A major party not only boycotted the election, it sought to prevent it. However, the nation is relieved to finally complete the election.

He said these in the speech of the chief guest at the thanksgiving ceremony for the smooth and successful completion of the 12th National Assembly elections at the auditorium of the election building on Thursday (January 18).

The CEC said that no election could go beyond criticism.

"We are happy with the election but it could not go beyond criticism," CEC said.

EC Secretary Md. Jahangir Alam presided over the event and other election commissioners, officials of all levels of commission secretariat and officials of various organizations working at the field level were present in the event.

The CEC said that the nation has emerged from the crisis as the 12th National Parliament elections were successfully completed. But this is not a permanent solution. People's confidence in the electoral system has gone down a lot.

He said, "Without the help of the government, it was not possible to make such a big campaign successful. We have to take both slander and slander. The nation has emerged from anxiety, crisis. But it is not a permanent solution. If the politicians do not have confidence, then the Election Commission does not have acceptance."
