Dhaka, April 9: The Dhaka-Chittagong section of Narayanganj has been severely congested for about 15 km. The driver and passengers have suffered. Such a scene was seen on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway around 11 pm on Saturday (April 9).

Due to severe traffic jam from Mouchak section of Siddhirganj on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway to Langalband of the port, many people are returning home without going to their destination. Many passengers were seen standing for long hours for the bus. Besides, there are allegations of passengers charging extra fare.

Talking to the passengers, it is learned that the fare from Madanpur to Sayedabad is Tk 35 to Tk 50. Besides, the fare from Chittagong Road to Moghrapara is being increased from Tk 25 to Tk 40.

Although the helpers of different buses have admitted to taking more fare, they are showing various reasons for this. They said their vehicles were not reaching their destination on time due to heavy traffic. As a result, they are forced to take more rent.

Regarding the severe traffic jam, Kanchpur Highway Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajjad Karim Khan said that millions of Hindus had gathered at Langalbandh due to the two-day Ashtami bathing festival which started last night. This has caused severe traffic jam since morning. He said there could be such a traffic jam till the afternoon. Multiple teams of their police are working on the highway to reduce traffic congestion.
