5,024 people killed in road accidents across Bangladesh in 2023

Dhaka, Jan 17: In 2023, 5,024 people were killed and 7,495 others were injured in 5,495 road accidents accross the country.

Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) chairman Noor Mohammad Majumdar shared this information in a press conference held at the head office of BRTA in Banani of the capital on Tuesday (January 16). BRTA collects road accident statistics across the country through it's divisional offices.

Noor Mohammad Majumdar said that 333 people were killed and 336 people were injured in 322 accidents in January 2023; 303 were killed and 416 were injured in 308 accidents in February; 415 were killed and 688 were injured in 387 accidents in March; 459 were killed and 705 were injured in 476 accidents in April; 394 were killed and 649 were injured in 483 accidents in May; 504 were killed and 785 were injured in 562 accidents in June; 533 were killed and 934 were injured in 566 accidents in July; 376 were killed and 695 were injured in 458 accidents in August; 410 were killed and 609 were injured in 454 accidents in September; 394 were killed and 492 were injured in 437 accidents in October; 470 were killed and 581 were injured in 559 accidents in November and 433 people were killed and 641 were injured in 483 accidents in December.

He added that 206 motorcars/jeeps, 1,083 buses/minibuses, 1,389 trucks/covered vans, 370 pickups, 226 microbuses, 161 ambulances, 1,747 motorcycles, 230 vans, 128 tractors, 217 easy bikes, 415 battery operated rickshaws, 497 auto rickshaws and 1,168 other vehicles were among the 7,837 motor vehicles involved in road accidents in 2023.
