Dhaka, October 23: A 74,000-strong volunteer force of the Cyclone Preparedness Program (CPP) is being prepared in the wake of fears that a deep depression in the Bay of Bengal could hit the coast of Bangladesh in the form of a cyclone.

The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Thursday (October 22) at the Secretariat to take precautionary measures in advance.

Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Md. Mohsin presided over the meeting.

The meeting was attended by Director General of Disaster Management Department Atiqul Haque and senior officials of various ministries and departments.

This information has been given in the press release of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

At the meeting, it was decided to create awareness among the people by issuing early warning notices while maintaining social distance in preparation for the cyclone.

It has been decided to open round-the-clock control rooms in the coastal district administrations.

In the coastal districts, it was decided to prepare dry food and other necessary items, including baby food, in the shelters.

The meeting also decided to have adequate vehicles ready to take the people to the shelter.

Meanwhile, the depression in the West-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas has moved further north and condensed to a deep depression in the same area.

For this, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra seaports have been asked to display the naval warning signal number four. The Meteorological Department said in a special notification on Thursday (October 22) evening.
