9 countries including India-China-Russia will observe the election

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 21 December 2023: So far, nine countries have confirmed that they will observe the upcoming 12th National Parliament elections, said Sehli Sabreen, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She gave this information at the regular weekly press briefing of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday afternoon.

She said, among the countries that have confirmed observation are India, China and Russia. Besides, the European Union (EU) expert team currently stationed in Bangladesh and the OIC, Commonwealth and Arab Parliaments will monitor the elections.

She also said that so far nine countries have confirmed sending observers. The countries are - India, China, Russia, Sri Lanka, Japan, Uzbekistan, Mauritius, Georgia and Palestine.

Sehli Sabreen said that an expert mission of the European Union is currently staying in Bangladesh. They will stay in Bangladesh till January 24. The Election Commission is currently reviewing applications for accreditation (permission) from international observers. How many of them will come to Bangladesh will be known when finalized by the commission.
