Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 7: The government has announced a seven-day ban on motorcycles on the highways from Thursday (July 7). On the last day before the ban starts, 21 district-bound motorcyclists from the south and south-west were seen on the road towards Mawa Toll Plaza. Although the presence of motorcycles has decreased a lot after the ban on the Padma Bridge, it was seen several times more on Wednesday.

Motorcycle riders tried to cross the bridge, but were turned away by law enforcement from the direction of the toll plaza. However, it was seen again that motorcycles were crossing the bridge as products in pickups and trucks.

Meanwhile, no ferry was operated on the Shimulia-Banglabazar and Majhikandi routes on Wednesday. Motorcyclists have reported additional costs and suffering.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Padma Bridge North Police Station Alamgir Hossain said passengers and vehicles crossed the road uninterruptedly throughout the day. Many motorcycles have arrived, they have been told to go the alternative route. Three trucks and their drivers have been arrested for trying to cross the bridge with motorcycles and passengers. Legal action will be taken against them.
