ACC's application to the High Court to increase the sentence of 13 associates of PK Halder

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 20, 2024: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has applied to the High Court to increase the sentence of 13 associates of former Managing Director of Global Islami (formerly NRB Global) Bank Prashant Kumar (PK) Halder.

On Monday, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) applied to the relevant branch of the High Court. The 13 associates of PK Halder are Lilavati Halder, Avantika Baral, Shankh Bepari, Sukumar Mridha, Anindita Mridha, Purnima Rani Halder, Uttam Kumar Mistry, Amitabh Adhikari, Pritish Kumar, Rajiv Som, Subrata Das, Anang Mohan Roy and Swapan Kumar Mistry.

Earlier, the court sentenced Prashant Kumar Halder alias PK Halder, former Managing Director (MD) of NRB Global Bank, to 22 years in prison in a case filed on charges of money laundering and acquisition of illegal assets. PK Halder has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crime of acquiring illegal wealth and 12 years for the crime of money laundering. Besides, the court sentenced the remaining 13 accused in this case to seven years imprisonment. On October 8, 2023, Judge Mohammad Nazrul Islam of the Special Judge Court-10 of Dhaka announced the verdict in this case. Earlier, the same court had fixed October 4 as the date for pronouncing the verdict.

The main accused in this case is PK Halder. There are 13 other accused in the same case. The case was filed against them for smuggling 80 crore rupees in Canada and acquiring illegal assets of about 426 crore rupees. The other accused in the case are PK Halder's lawyer Sukumar Mridha, daughter Anindita Mridha, associate Avantika Baral and cousin Shankh Bepari, PK Halder's mother Lilavati Halder and brother Pritish Kumar Halder and associates Purnima Rani Halder, Amitabh Adhikari, Rajeev Som, Subrata Das, Anang Mohan Roy, Uttam Kumar Mistry and Swapan Kumar Mistry.
