Ambassadors of 10 countries tour the activities of Rohingyas

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 4: The ambassadors of 10 countries, who came to observe the situation of Rohingyas, have expressed satisfaction over the work-oriented activities of Rohingyas in the shelter project located at Hatiyar Bhasan Char in Noakhali's Dwip Upazila.

Additional Commissioner for Refugee Relief and Repatriation Moazzem Hossain, who is in charge of the Bhasan Char Rohingya camp, said the Ambassadors of 10 countries arrived in Bhasan Char at around 10.45 am on Thursday. At that time a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh was present there.

He said that after reaching Bhasan Char, the ambassadors of 10 countries visited different places to monitor the situation of Rohingyas. During this time they visited various activities of Rohingyas. They inquired about the Rohingyas who became self-reliant after receiving livelihood as a gift from the Prime Minister. The ambassadors of 10 countries expressed satisfaction after inspecting garments, leather factories, various handicrafts and children's educational institutions made for Rohingyas.

He said that the ambassadors of 10 countries who came to Bhasan Char to monitor the situation of Rohingyas have visited the employment oriented projects and children's educational institutions in Bhasan Char. Accepted various items made by Rohingyas as gifts. Later in the afternoon they left Bhasan Char for Chittagong by helicopter.

On August 25, 2017, Bangladesh gave shelter to the Rohingyas who were displaced due to torture by the Myanmar army. Besides, several lakh more Rohingyas came and took shelter in the hilly areas of Cox's Bazar at different times. In order to cope with the pressure of Rohingyas in such a situation, the government took initiative to relocate one lakh Rohingyas to Bhasan Char in Noakhali. As part of this process, 22,604 Rohingyas have reached Hatiyar Bhasan Char, an isolated island in Noakhali from Cox's Bazar in the eleventh step.
