Another 1,287 Rohingyas reached Bhasanchar

Dhaka, February 1: In the tenth phase, 1,287 more Rohingyas have reached Hatiya's Bhasanchar, an isolated island upazila of Noakhali from Cox's Bazar. With this, the number of Rohingya citizens in Bhasanchar shelter center stood at 20,949. The Rohingyas reached Bhasanchar at around 1 pm on Monday with the naval ships 'Banauja Tuna' and 'Banauja Sandeep'.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (Deputy Secretary) Moazzem Hossain, who is in charge of the Bhasanchar Rohingya camp, said 1287 Rohingyas were taken off the ship and taken to the helipad adjacent to the naval platoon. From there thay were taken by car to the designated cluster. He added that 65 Rohingyas had come from Cox's Bazar and 81 from Bhasanchar to Cox's Bazar had returned on the same ship.

Incidentally, under the rehabilitation project of Rohingyas in Bhasanchar, Noakhali, 1,642 people in the first phase on December 4, 2020, 1,804 people in the second phase on December 29, 3,242 people in the third phase on January 29 and 30, 3,018 in the fourth phase on February 14 and 15. 4,021 Rohingyas were transferred to Bhasanchar in the fifth phase on March 3 and 4, 4,372 in the sixth phase on April 1 and 2, 379 in the seventh phase on November 25, 552 in the eighth phase and 705 in the ninth phase on January 6.

In May last year, 306 Rohingyas trying to enter Malaysia illegally by sea were rescued from the sea and taken to Bhasanchar.
