Another consignment of Metro rail reaches Mongla port

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, May 2: Another consignment of coaches and locomotives of Metro rail has arrived at Mongla port of Bagerhat district.

The unloading began yesterday after the Panama-flagged commercial ship MV Horizon-9 with eight coaches and four engines arrived at the Mongla port jetty.

Earlier, on April 6, the ninth consignment of Met rorail left the Port of Kobe of Japan for Mongla. The ninth consignment includes 19 packages of machinery including eight coaches and four engines.

Md. Wahiduzzaman, manager of Ancient Steam Ship Limited which is a local shipping agent for foreign ships, said the unloading of goods from the ship has started since the Panama-flagged bulk carrier MV Horizon-9 anchored at the port jetty. After the unloading, these coaches, locomotives and machinery will be taken by river to Diabari Depot of Metro rail in Uttara.

Acting Secretary of Mongla Port Authority and Harbour Master Commander Sheikh Fakhruddin said 56 coaches and 28 locomotives of Metrorail have arrived at Mongla Port in nine consignments so far.

Earlier, 48 coaches and 24 locomotives in eight consignments were unloaded at Mongla port and then sent to Diabari depot in Uttara, Dhaka. After the addition of these coaches, Metrorail activities are being carried out in Dhaka on a trial basis.
