Army chiefs of Bangladesh and India hold courtesy meeting

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, July 19: Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pandey paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed at Army Headquarters on Monday.

Indian Army Chief General Manoj Pandey thanked the Bangladesh Army Chief for inviting him and said that he has chosen Bangladesh as his first foreign tour destination after taking charge as the Indian Army Chief. This revealed his respect for Bangladesh and the foundation of the historical and professional relationship between the two armies.

In a private meeting, apart from mutual exchange of favours, they discussed the existing good relations between the armies of the two countries and various issues of cooperation in the future. After that, a special briefing was organized for the delegation in the helmet conference room of the headquarters. Informed about Bangladesh Army's combat readiness, improved training system, role in world peace and overall administrative structure, he praised the current leadership and overall high standard of the army.

Before reaching the military headquarters, General Manoj Pandey paid tribute to the martyrs of Bangladesh's liberation war by placing wreaths at Shikha Anirban. He was later given a guard of honour by a smart army contingent at Senakunj and planted a tree sapling there. Later, General Manoj Pandey, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Security Major General Tariq Ahmed Siddique, RCDS, PSC (Retd), paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Navy and Air Force Chiefs. In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum.

In the evening a Banquet Dinner and interesting cultural programme was organized by Bangladesh Army Chief in honour of General Manoj Pandey at Army Multipurpose Complex. At this time, the delegation of India and senior officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces were present.

General Manoj Pandey will have a courtesy call on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday. He will address the local and foreign trainees at the Defense Service Command and Staff College (DSCSC) in Mirpur Cantonment. On the same day, the visiting team will visit Bangladesh Institute of Peace Support Operations Training (BIPSOT) and Bangabandhu Military Museum located in Rajendrapur Cantonment. After the tour, the Indian delegation will return to India on July 21.
