Army officer, three terrorists killed in gunfight in Bandarban

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 3: One army member was killed and another was injured when armed terrorists opened fire on an army patrol team in Bandarban's Ruma upazila. In counter attack, three terrorists were neutralized.

A press release signed by Rashedul Alam Khan, Assistant Director of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said on Thursday (February 3) morning that members of the Santu Larma-led Parbatya Jana Sanghati Samiti (JSS) in Bandhipara area of ​​Ruma Upazila engaged in a gunfight with an army patrolling party of Ruma zone of Bandarban at around 10:30 pm on Wednesday. Habibur Rahman, a senior warrant officer of the Bangladesh Army and the commander of that patrolling unit, was killed in the firing.

According to Bandarban Army Region sources, a patrol team led by Habibur Rahman, a senior warrant officer of the 26th Bangladesh Infantry Regiment deployed in Ruma Zone of Bandarban Region, reached Bathipara area on Wednesday (February 2) night and was targeted by terrorists. Habibur Rahman was shot in the head and Firoz, another army man, was shot in the leg. Three JSS members were killed in the retaliatory fire.

Army officer Habibur Rahman was shot dead on the spot. Another injured soldier, Firoz, has been admitted to the Combined Military Hospital in Chittagong.

The army has seized a sub-machine gun, 275 rounds of ammunition, three magazines, three guns, five rounds of ammunition of those guns, five mobile phones and Rs 52,900 in cash from the spot.

Army have been carrying out extensive searches since the shootout and ensuring the safety of local people.
