Dhaka, March 15: A soldier was killed in sudden firing by the Kuki-Chin National Army (KNA) in the remote hilly area of Ruangchhari in Bandarban. Two more army personnel were injured. This information was shared in a circular of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Monday.

According to ISPR, a patrol team of the army was engaged in the security of the group going to give free health care to mothers and children in remote hilly areas on the occasion of National Children's Day and Great Independence Day under the supervision of Bangladesh Army. On Sunday (March 12) at 1:00 pm, the armed terrorist group of Kuki-Chin National Army opened fire on the ambushed patrol. In this incident, Bangladesh Army Master Warrant Officer Nazim Uddin was shot and died on the spot and two soldiers were injured. The injured are currently undergoing treatment.

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has expressed deep grief over the death of Nazim Uddin in the service of the motherland.

The ISPR also said that the separatist Kuki-Chin National Army, an armed terrorist group, had earlier provided arms training to a militant group like Jamaat-ul-Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya in Bandarban's hilly areas for money.

The Thanchi Road in Bandarban, constructed by the government for the development of the backward communities in the hilly areas, is being operated under the supervision of the army. To counter these development activities of the government, the terrorist group KNA first demanded contributions from civilian contractors, suppliers and laborers involved in road construction activities and then threatened to stop work.

But as the work was going on under the supervision of the army, the KNA terrorist group kidnapped 12 workers on March 11. Among them, one worker was shot dead and four workers are still being held hostage by the KNA. The remaining seven workers were released in exchange for ransom, but threatened them not to work on the road construction project with the army. Besides, the KNA fired on an army patrol on March 12.
