Dhaka, March 11: Body of journalist Avishruti Shastri aka Brishti Khatun, who was killed in the capital's Bailey Road fire, has been identified nine days after the incident. The DNA test report revealed that her father is Sabuj Sheikh and mother Beauty Khatun. Her body was identified in the forensic lab of the Police Criminal Investigation Department-CID.

CID's Forensic Department DIG AKM Nahidul Islam confirmed the matter on Sunday night.

He said DNA samples were collected from the parents of Avishruti aka Brishti Khatun, claimant Sabuj Sheikh and Beauty Khatun. DNA samples were also taken from the body of the deceased woman. It has been checked in the CID lab that Avishruti aka Brishti's father is Sabuj Sheikh and mother is Beauty Khatun.

DIG Nahidul also said that the DNA report will be signed and sent to the police station and the dead body will be asked to be handed over to the claimant's parents. Sabuj Sheikh, the father of Brishti who demanded to know about the identity of the girl, said that they have not been officially informed about the DNA yet.

Bristhi Khatun was one of the 46 people who died in a terrible fire at the Green Cozy Cottage building on Bailey Road in the capital on February 29. Brishti was known as Avishruti Shastri to her friends, colleagues and on Facebook. But due to her identity as Avishruti Shastri, complications arise with the transfer of her body. After his death, the temple priest claimed her as a Hindu.

On the other hand, the parents of Sabuj Sheikh and Beauty Khatun claimed that the deceased girl was not Avishruti, her name is Bristhi Khatun. Brishti was their daughter. In such a situation, the police decided to do a DNA test to identify the identity.

Brishti's village house was at Paschim Para of Bangram village of ward number 7 of Betbaria union of Khoksa upazila of Kushtia. Avishruti Shastri's name in college certificate, birth registration and national identity card is Brishi Khatun. But his friends colleagues knew her name was Avishruti. After her death, complications arise with this name. Her body is still in Dhaka Medical College Mortuary.
