Ban on motorcycles for three days, all vehicles for one day

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 23 December 2023: The Election Commission (EC) has banned the movement of motorcycles for three days during the 12th National Assembly elections. At the same time, all types of traffic have been banned for one day. In this regard, the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a political circular-6 on Thursday.

According to the circular, on the occasion of the 12th National Assembly elections, the ban on the movement of motorcycles in the electoral areas will be in force from 12 midnight on January 5 to 12 midnight on January 8 across the country.

It is also said that there will be a ban on the movement of all other vehicles including taxicabs, microbuses, pickup vans, trucks, launches, engine-powered boats (except those operating on specific routes) in the electoral area from 12 midnight on January 6 to 12 midnight on 7 January.

However, candidates, law enforcement, armed forces, administration and authorized observers and election agents can use those vehicles. In this case, observers and polling agents should use Election Commission stickers on their vehicles.

This ban will not apply to national highways. Apart from this, separate notifications can be issued from the Department of Road Transport and Highways and the Ministry of Shipping following the instructions of the Election Commission with the aim of empowering the District Magistrate or the Metropolitan Police Commissioner in particular to impose restrictions on certain vehicles in view of local requirements and realities.
