Bangabazar Fire: Five Thousand shops gutted, loss of Tk 2,000 crore reported

Dhaka, April 4: Around 5,000 shops were damaged in the fire incident in Bangabazar Market, including 2,500 in nearby markets. Helal Uddin, President of Bangladesh Shop Owners' Association, has demanded compensation of Tk 700 crore as a wholesale allocation, stating that the fire has caused an estimated loss of Tk 2000 crore.

He said, "This fire did not stop until everything was burnt. According to our knowledge, there are about two and a half thousand shops in Bangabazar wood market. Small traders shop here. Eid is coming. Everyone has bought Eid-centered products in the shop. At such a time, this fire broke out. causing great damage."

He said, "The capital of these businessmen is the goods of the shop. If the goods are burnt, they have no savings. Now we are demanding from the government for them, we are initially demanding a wholesale allocation of 700 crore taka to compensate for the loss in Ramadan Eid-centered business."

The fire service received information about the fire at 6:10 am. And reached the spot at 6:12. Initially, the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage was not known.

Businessmen say that Bangabazar is the largest wholesale cloth market in the country. The business of this market has gradually accumulated since the beginning of Eid-centered fasting. Bangabazar's shopping started to accumulate this year as well. But a sudden fire took away all the traders.
