Bangladesh: Flood hits Cox Bazaar-Bandarban

Dhaka, June 13, 2021: Due to moderate to heavy rains, flash floods may occur in Cox's Bazar and Bandarban districts in the next three days.

The flood forecasting and warning center said this on Saturday (June 12) in the river situation and forecast.

According to mathematical models from the Bangladesh Meteorological Department and the Indian Meteorological Department, moderate to heavy rains are likely in the southeastern districts of Cox's Bazar and Bandarban and adjoining areas in the next three days. As a result, the water level in the rivers of Cox's Bazar and Bandarban districts may rise especially fast. This can lead to flash floods somewhere.

The forecast further said that the water of Brahmaputra and Jamuna is decreasing. The water of Brahmaputra river may remain stable in the next 24 hours. On the other hand, the water level of Jamuna river may continue to decrease.

Meanwhile, the water of the river Ganges is stable. And the water is rising in the Padma River, which may continue for the next 24 hours. The waters of the main rivers of the Meghna Basin in the northeast of the country remain stable, which may recede in the next 24 hours.

Of the monitored water stations, 56 have recorded water surges. And 42 waters are declining and one remains unchanged.
