Own Correspondent, New Delhi, Sept 8: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has commented that the relationship between Bangladesh and India is beyond strategic partnership.

She said that after building a strong partnership over the past 50 years, both countries are increasingly working on broader sectoral cooperation.

The Prime Minister, who is on a four-day visit to New Delhi, said this on Wednesday (September 7) in the ballroom of the hotel where she is staying during her visit, at a ceremony to award 'Mujib Britti' to the descendants of members of the Indian Armed Forces who were martyred or seriously injured in the Liberation War.

Sheikh Hasina said, "This is our best wish for their descendants to pay respect to the Indian veterans who sacrificed their lives for us in 1971. We express our gratitude to our Indian brothers, who sacrificed their precious lives and blood in our liberation war. It is always a matter of pride for us to remember those who have sacrificed their lives. Accept my salutations, the brave-hearted warriors."

The Prime Minister said that since we are keen to carry forward the legacy of our great ancestors from generation to generation, this is our humble attempt to reconnect the younger generation with that historical past.

The Prime Minister said that the joint production biopic 'Mujib: The Making of the Nation' on the biography of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is in progress and is expected to be released soon.

Pointing out that Bangladesh and India are jointly celebrating December 6 as 'Friendship Day', Sheikh Hasina said that this day is a historic day. India recognized Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign state on this day in 1971. Through this joint celebration, Bangladesh and India have highlighted the good neighborly relations built on mutual trust and respect for the rest of the world.

The Prime Minister also appreciated the Indian government's move to provide medical assistance to Bangladeshi freedom fighters in India as well as providing scholarships to their family members.
