Bangladesh-India relations scaling new heights: Information Minister

Dhaka, March 20: Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hassan Mahmud has said that the relations between Bangladesh and India are at a new height at the moment. He was speaking at a function organized on the occasion of Bangabandhu's birth centenary and golden jubilee of independence at the National Theater of Shilpakala Academy on Friday (March 19).

The event was jointly organized by the Central International Affairs Committee of the Bangladesh Awami League and the Indian High Commission.

Awami League Central Committee on International Relations President Mohammad Jamir presided over the function. Welcoming remarks were made by Indian High Commissioner Vikram Kumar Doraiswami and Awami League International Relations Secretary Shammi Ahmed.

Dr. Hassan Mahmood said that the relations between Bangladesh and India have reached a new height during the time of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Narendra Modi.

Vikram Kumar Doraiswami said the centenary of Bangabandhu's birth and the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh's independence are important moments not only for Bangladesh but also for India. The creation of Bangladesh has changed Southeast Asia and created new concepts of development in the region. This achievement must belong to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Who led the freedom struggle of Bangladesh. So he is not only the father of the nation of Bangladesh, he is a hero to 1.3 billion Indians, and a source of inspiration.

He said unimaginable socio-economic development has taken place in Bangladesh under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina. This is Bangabandhu's Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina is making his dream come true.

At the end of the discussion, the main attraction of the cultural program was the dance performance of renowned Indian dancer and actress Mamata Shankar and her group. Mamata Shankar performed the dance drama 'Amritsar Putra' on the occasion.

Also present on the occasion were US Ambassador Robert Earl Miller, Ambassadors of Japan, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam and Italy and other cultural and political figures.
