Bangladesh-Maldives ink three agreements

Own representative, Dhaka, December 24: To take bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Maldives to new heights, the two countries on Thursday signed three agreements in the areas of health, education, double taxation, prisoner exchange and youth and sports. The agreement was signed in the presence of both the leaders after bilateral talks between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Healthcare and Medical Sciences (Renewal) between Bangladesh and Maldives and a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Youth and Sports Development of both the countries were signed.

On the occasion, Bangladesh gifted 13 military vehicles to Maldives as a symbol of friendship between the two South Asian countries. Earlier, Maldivian President Ibrahim Mohammed Solih gave a red carpet reception to the Prime Minister as she arrived at the President's Office in Male. Sheikh Hasina was accorded a guard of honor and was formally welcomed with a song salute.

The Prime Minister also visited the 'Line of Presentation' of both the countries. Sheikh Hasina signed the visitor's book kept at the President's office and took part in a photo session there. The Prime Minister arrived in Male, the capital of Maldives, on Wednesday afternoon (December 22) for the first time on a six-day bilateral visit on a VVIP flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.
