Bangladesh pays homage to former UK Queen Elizabeth II at Ganabhavan

Dhaka, September 10: Awami League President Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and members of the party's Parliamentary and Local Government People's Representative Nomination Board observed a minute's silence as a tribute to former UK Queen Elizabeth II.

The Nomination Board meeting began on Saturday (September 10) after 5pm. A minute's silence was observed there.

Earlier on Thursday (September 8) evening local time, Buckingham Palace announced the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The longest-reigning Queen of the United Kingdom died at the age of 96.

Last Wednesday, Queen Elizabeth took part in a virtual meeting. After leaving there, the doctors advised her to rest. Soon after, there were concerns about her health.

She has been staying at Balmoral Castle in Scotland for quite some time. Due to physical ailments, the Queen had reduced her public appearances for several months. She was kept under the care of doctors at Balmoral Castle. Queen Elizabeth II breathed her last there.

The news of her death sent shockwaves around the world. The heads of state of various countries expressed their condolences. Bangladesh President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed their condolences. Along with that, three days of national mourning is being observed in Bangladesh.
