Friendship Bangladesh prioritizes good relations with its neighbors
Dhaka, April 12: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that Bangladesh gives great priority to good relations with neighboring countries. The Prime Minister said this in a farewell meeting with Professor Sudarshan DS Seneviratne, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Dhaka at Ganabhaban on Wednesday (April 12). Later, Prime Minister's Press Secretary Ihsanul Karim briefed the journalists.
The Prime Minister said that Bangladesh gives the highest priority to good relations with neighboring countries. Especially the relationship with Sri Lanka. Bangladesh's relationship with Sri Lanka is historic. She mentioned strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in various fields including investment, agriculture, fisheries, medicine, maritime connectivity and higher education.
Regarding the development of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina said that her government is implementing 90 percent of the country's development programs from internal funds. The development process of the country has been hampered due to the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic. Bangladesh is now trying to turn around and working hard. Sheikh Hasina congratulated the ambassador for his successful assignment in Bangladesh.
Ambassador Sudarshan praised the socio-economic development of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. He said that if other mega projects like Padma Bridge, Matarbari and Payra are implemented, Bangladesh will become a big regional hub of connectivity.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Sri Lankan Ambassador both emphasized on the blue-economy.
The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka said that his country is interested in increasing mutual cooperation with Bangladesh in trade, tourism, deep sea port and medicine sector. Ambassador of Sri Lanka praised the foreign policy of Bangladesh.
