Population Bangladesh's population is now 16.98 crore
Dhaka, April 10: According to the preliminary report of Census and House Census-2022, the total population of the country was 16 crore 51 lakh 58 thousand 616. Another 46 lakh 70 thousand 295 people were added to the PEC (Post Enumeration Check) and the adjusted total population of the country is 16 crore 98 lakh 28 thousand 911. 68.34 percent of the total population lives in rural areas and 31.66 percent in urban areas.
Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) conducted the country's first digital census and household census from June 15-21 last year. The enumerated total population of the country is given by publishing the preliminary report on July 27, within a month of the end of the census. The Bangladesh Institute of Development Research (BIDS) conducted a completely independent and independent post-census verification PEC survey in October last year to determine the coverage and content gaps created during the enumeration after the census was completed in accordance with statistical methods and international protocols.
In this regard, BBS organized a press conference on Sunday April 9 at noon at the NEC conference room in Sherebangla Nagar of the capital. Planning Minister MA Mannan was present. Secretary of Statistics and Information Management Department Dr. Shahnaz Arefin and Director General of BIDS Dr. Binayak Sen were also present.
Also present were senior officials of the Department of Statistics and Information Management, Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics and BIDS, university professors and journalists from the Development Journalists Forum of Bangladesh (DJFB). In the press conference, Project Director of Population and Housing Census (PHC)-2022 Md. Dildar Hossain presented a comparative picture of the total population calculated in the census and coordinated through PEC.
