Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Oct 18: The stability of Bangladesh is very important for the region including India. In this regard, mutual cooperation and dependence will provide long-term benefits for both countries.

Assistant High Commissioner of India in Chittagong, Rajeev Ranjan, said this in a special guest speech at an exchange meeting at the Bangabandhu Conference Hall of the World Trade Center in Chittagong on Monday (October 17) afternoon.

He emphasized on increasing the connectivity of the North Eastern states of India through Bangladesh. Apart from this, he expressed hope for the speedy implementation of the agreement on the use of Chittagong and Mongla ports.

The Assistant High Commissioner said that Bangladesh is India's fourth largest export destination. The transition of the country from the list of least developed countries is of particular importance in terms of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

A three-member delegation led by Amit Kumar, Director of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) along with The Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry met in the exchange meeting.

Chamber president Mahbubul Alam presided over the meeting.

He said, to transform Chittagong into a regional trade and investment destination, a revolution in infrastructure development is being achieved in the region with the initiative of the current government. The Chamber President urged the CII delegation to participate in the Chittagong International Trade Fair along with keeping a dedicated space for the SME industry of Bangladesh in various exhibitions held in India.

Amit Kumar, director of the Confederation of Indian Industry, said the visit is aimed at increasing productivity through an exchange of experience in the SME sector between the two countries. Through this, he emphasized on increasing production through technological excellence and reducing manufacturing costs.

Amit Kumar expressed his confidence to advance the SME and agro sectors of both countries through such an exchange of experiences in the future.
