Dhaka, Jan 18: Bangladesh and the United States have agreed on closer ties.

On Wednesday (January 17), the US ambassador had the first courtesy meeting with the minister at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Foreign Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said this while talking to journalists after the meeting.

He said, "We both agreed on making our relationship closer and discussed working towards that goal. The US ambassador discussed working with the new government and deepening ties. We discussed working together on American investment to expand trade."

Hasan Mahmud said, "We have relations with the United States on many issues. We have been working together for a long time to counter terrorism and extremism. Hope to work on it more closely in the future. The point is, we both expressed our intention to work towards closer relations, expand our trade and increase cooperation in all other areas."

He said that the United States has come to observe the election, and we have also discussed that matter. Bangladesh had a good election. All these issues have been discussed.

The foreign minister said that the Rohingya issue has come up for discussion, and discussed the Rohingya issue. I have always sought their cooperation to return the Rohingyas. I reiterated it again today. We have agreed to work together for that purpose.

The question was put to the Foreign Minister about whose side the issue of the recently concluded election was raised. In response, he said, "Different countries had different opinions about the election. Most importantly, they are working with the new government. We are working together to move our relationship forward. We discussed this in detail and it was a very fruitful discussion."
