Dhaka, Oct 11: New York-based leading international media outlet Bloomberg published an article titled 'Biden's Democracy Crusade Goes astray in Bangladesh' calling last month's US announcement of visa restrictions on some unnamed Bangladeshis a 'rather vague statement'.

The economic news agency's October 9 issue described the recently imposed US visa restrictions on Bangladesh as "a form of open bullying" and called the move "neither fair nor sensitive".

Mihir Sharma, a Bloomberg opinion columnist and senior fellow at the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi, wrote the article, which harshly criticized the political policies and actions of the current Bangladesh government, saying, "Politically, the country is not very exemplary".

In an indirect reference to the US position on Bangladesh, the article commented, “You don't need to support the coup or applaud the rigged election. At the same time, you don't always have to involve yourself in very domestic internal conflicts.”

The article also states that the US restrictions are "unjustified because it appears to be singling out Bangladesh" and that the policy is "not justified because it shows US bias". It also warned that "the cost of isolating Bangladesh is significantly higher".
