BNP Rally BNP can hold rally at Ijtema Ground or Purbachal if they want: DMP
Dhaka, December 7: BNP can hold its rally at Tongi World Ijtema ground or at Purbachal International Trade Fair ground on December 10 if they want. In that case, there will be no objection from the DMP.
Md. Farooq Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of Media and Public Relations Department of DMP said this in response to questions from journalists at his office on Tuesday (December 6) afternoon.
He said, if BNP looks for open ground, excluding the road, then it can also hold a rally at the Tongi Biswa Ijtema ground or the international trade fair ground in Purbachle. There will be no objection from DMP.
Deputy Police Commissioner Farooq Hossain said that permission has been given by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to Suhrawardy Udyan on December 10. Even after giving the permission, they met the DMP commissioner and came up with a proposal for an alternative venue. A proposal was made by the BNP to the DC of Motijheel Division for an alternative venue at Arambagh. The proposal has not been formally approached by the DMP Commissioner.
The DC of Media and Public Relations Department of DMP also said that Dhaka Metropolitan Police has not thought of an alternative venue so far. Since permission was given in Suhrawardy Udyan, the DMP remains in that position till now. DMP will not allow over any road.
The police officer also mentioned that the DMP has taken the necessary measures to protect the law and order situation around the BNP rally on December 10.
When asked whether BNP has mentioned any reason behind not wanting to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan, DC Farooq Hossain said, it is known that they are feeling a security threat. However, it has been said on behalf of DMP - we have assured all kinds of police assistance to keep law and order under control around the assembly.
