Dhaka, July 27: BNP has postponed the date of July 27 general meeting in Dhaka, keeping in view the resignation of the current government and the dissolution of parliament. The party has decided to postpone Thursday's mass meeting programme till tomorrow Friday (July 28) in Nayapaltan.

The party's secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced this decision in a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan on Wednesday night. BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the general meeting in Dhaka on July 27 in the speech of the chief guest from the 'Youth Rally' at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan on July 22. Accordingly, last Monday (July 24), BNP expressed interest in holding a mass meeting at Nayapaltan or Suhrawardy Udyan by writing to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

However, DMP did not allow BNP to hold a mass meeting in Nayapaltan or Suhrawardy Udyan. As an alternative venue, the party was asked by the police to hold a mass rally at the Golap Bagh ground next to the Sayedabad bus terminal. However, BNP has shown disinterest in holding a mass meeting at Golapbagh ground from the beginning.

In the meantime, members of the party's highest policy-making forum National Standing Committee held an emergency meeting at the party's central office in Nayapaltan on Wednesday afternoon to finalize the venue for Thursday's general meeting. After the meeting, the journalists were informed that a press conference will be held at 8:30 pm. Following this, BNP decided to change the date of the program.

Earlier, BNP had verbally informed the police that they wanted to hold a mass meeting at Nayapaltan or Suhrawardy Udyan even if the date was postponed. But as the police did not get any response in this regard, the party decided to postpone Thursday's mass meeting to next Friday.
