Dhaka, March 6: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has commented that BNP has started the its nefarious activity to make the election and election process questionable.

He said, "BNP has resorted to its old tricks to question the election and election process. Elections will be held in due time in the country as per the constitutional provisions."

Obaidul Quader said this in a statement given to the media on Sunday. He said, this statement is to condemn and protest the purposeful and misguided speech of BNP leaders including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

General Secretary of Awami League said, "The upcoming National Assembly elections will be held in accordance with the country's constitution. BNP leaders should understand that there is no use in trying to resist the elections and question the electoral process. The people's verdict will change the power through the constitutional means."

Urging the BNP to shun the path of conspiracies and return to democratic politics, Obaidul Quader said, "BNP is afraid to participate in the elections. Due to their continuous failure in the elections, they have started a conspiracy to intentionally question the constitutional and democratic process of changing the state power."

He said that Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP, turned the democracy and electoral system of this country into a farce. Ziaur Rahman forcibly declared himself President by issuing a military decree. Ziaur Rahman did not need any proponents and supporters to become the President.

Obaidul Quader said, at the same time illegally organized Yes/No vote from the posts of President, Army Chief and Chief Martial Law Officer. Which is completely unconstitutional and against the Bangladesh Army regulations. Ziaur Rahman gave the nation the gift of curfew marca democracy and organized yes/no vote in 1977, presidential election in 1978 and parliamentary election in 1979 while maintaining martial law.

He said that his wife Begum Khaleda Zia followed in the footsteps of Ziaur Rahman. In continuation of which, Khaleda Zia held a farce election on February 15, 1996 with the intention of axing the state power. The great National Parliament was tarnished by the appointment of Bangabandhu's self-confessed murderer to the seat of the Leader of the Opposition.
