Body of BGB sepoy killed in BSF firing handed over to Bangladesh

Dhaka, Jan 24: Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has handed over the body of BGB sepoy Raees Uddin, who was reportedly killed in firing by BSF at Benapole in Jessore.

The body was handed over to the captain and assistant director of 49 BGB, Masud Rana, at 10:15 am on Wednesday. The BSF handed over the body through Gangulia Para border in India.

According to BGB, BSF handed over the body of Sepoy Raees Uddin through Gangulia Para near Main Pillar 28S of Shikarpur BOP responsible area under Jessore Battalion (49 BGB). The body was taken to Jessore battalion headquarters in an ambulance.

On Monday, BGB sepoy Raees Uddin was killed by BSF firing near Dhanyakhola border. He was the son of Kamruzzaman of Tarapur village of Sahapara area of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj.

On Monday around 5:30 am, the BGB patrol team saw a group of cow smugglers coming from India crossing the border in the area adjacent to Jelepara post of Dhanyakhola BOP of BGB Jessore Battalion and 'challenged' them. The smugglers then tried to run away towards India.

At that time, Sepoy Mohammad Raees Uddin, a member of the BGB patrol team, got separated from his team due to thick fog while chasing the smugglers. Initially, he could not be found, but later it was learned through various media that he was injured in BSF firing and was undergoing treatment in a hospital in India. Immediately after this incident, a flag meeting was held at the battalion commander level of both countries. Later it was learned that the soldier died while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
