BRICS: Prime Minister Hasina holds meetings with four presidents

Own correspondent, Dhaka, 25 August 2023: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with the presidents of four countries on the sidelines of the 15th BRICS Summit. Separate bilateral meetings with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Iranian President Sayyid Ebrahim Raisolsadati were held at the Sandton Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa.

In the meeting, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh emphasized the need to increase bilateral and trade relations for mutual benefit and called for massive investment from the countries. A bilateral meeting of New Development Bank President Dilma Bana Rousseff with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh was also held at the same place.

The Prime Minister arrived in Johannesburg on August 22 to attend the 15th BRICS Summit at the invitation of the current BRICS Chair and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Earlier, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and Indonesian President Joko Widodo exchanged greetings with the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on the sidelines of the BRICS Plus dialogue.

Apart from this, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Vice-President of Uganda, Deputy Prime Minister of South Africa, Foreign Minister of Russia, Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia also exchanged words with Sheikh Hasina.

The Prime Minister also participated in a photo session with Heads of State and Government arriving in Johannesburg to attend the 15th BRICS Summit. The Prime Minister is expected to leave Johannesburg on August 26 after a four-day visit to South Africa and arrive in Dhaka on the morning of August 27.
