Own Correspondent, Dhaka, Sept 1: The Road Transport and Highways Department has issued a notification setting new fares for diesel buses and minibusses following the reduction in fuel prices.

The government issued this notification under the authority given in section 34 (2) of the Road Transport Act-2018. Deputy Secretary of Road Transport and Highways Department Md. Monirul Alam signed the notification on Wednesday (August 31).

According to the notification, in the case of buses and minibusses plying on inter-district and long-distance routes, the passenger fare per kilometer has been reduced from Tk 2.20 to Tk 2.15. In the case of buses plying in Dhaka and Chittagong cities, the fare has been reduced from Tk 2.50 to Tk 2.45.

Apart from this, minibusses plying in Dhaka and Chittagong metropolis, and buses and minibusses plying within the districts under Dhaka Transport Coordinating Authority-DTCA (Narayanganj, Munshiganj, Narsingdi, Gazipur, Manikganj and Dhaka districts) will charge a passenger fare of Tk 2.35 instead of Tk 2.40 per kilometer. The minimum fare for buses and minibusses plying in Dhaka and Chittagong cities has been fixed at Tk 10 and Tk 8 respectively.

The notification further states that if the number of seats in buses/minibusses is rearranged for comfortable travel by reducing the number of seats approved by the manufacturer/BRTA, the fare rates shall be fixed proportionately as per para-a above. In that case, pro rata fare approval should be obtained from the Route Permit Approving Authority (BRTA)/Passenger and Goods Transport Committee.

This fare will not be applicable to gas-powered buses and minibusses. All notifications/orders issued earlier regarding fare fixation of diesel buses and minibusses are hereby cancelled. This fare rate must be posted in a visible place on every bus and minibus. This fare rate issued in the public interest will be effective from September 1.
