Dhaka, November 14: The cabinet has issued six directives including exemption of tax at source on food imports to deal with the crisis next year. A cabinet meeting was held at the Prime Minister's office on Monday (November 14). Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over it.

After the meeting, Cabinet Secretary Khandkar Anwarul Islam gave this information to reporters at the Secretariat. The cabinet secretary also said that the cabinet has given instructions on increasing production, sending skilled manpower abroad, increasing remittances, increasing foreign direct investment, and keeping food stocks in a comfortable condition.

In the meeting, the annual report related to the activities of the ministries and departments for the fiscal year 2021-22 was presented, he said, "It was discussed in detail. It (annual report) was basically giving information till June 30. In view of this, the details and related issues came to the cabinet."

The Cabinet Secretary said, "The bottom line was that we are seeing a crisis in the global situation that is coming. In that case, we have to take some steps. Especially the economic analysis of the world that says that 2023 is likely to be a very crisis year for three reasons. As the Federal Reserve rates of Interest has increased, that's one. Second, before the recovery of covid, the improvement that was going on because of the start of the war in Ukraine is going negative again. Number three, another reason is that they say that China is cutting production at a significant rate. That is affecting the world market. Those three things. In view of the international analysis coming forward, 2023 is likely to be a crisis year for these three reasons. Everyone should be prepared accordingly."

Khandaker Anwarul Islam also said that Financial Time has made a detailed report on the matter.

After the presentation of the annual report, there was a detailed discussion in the cabinet, he said, "The observations made by the cabinet and the honorable prime minister - the first is that we must increase our food production in all circumstances. That as much as we talk about food imports, this crisis will remain. Although Ukraine and Russia have been freed that, No restrictions can be imposed on food. But Steele will make it matter."
