Chief Justice visits Bangabandhu's Baker Hostel in Kolkata

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, 10 February 2024: Chief Justice of Bangladesh Obaidul Hasan visited Bangabandhu's memorial Baker Hostel.

Chief Justice of Bangladesh Obaidul Hasan paid tribute to the portrait of Bangabandhu located in Room 24 (Bangabandhu Memorial Room) of Baker Hostel in Kolkata on Friday. Later he stayed there for some time. The Chief Justice was accompanied by Justice Habibur Gani and Justice Ruhul Quddus of the High Court Division of the Supreme Court.

Besides, the Chief Justice of Bangladesh wrote comments in the visitor's book. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a student of Islamia College (now Maulana Azad College) from 1942 to 1947. At that time, he was staying in room number 24, North-West corner, on the third floor of Baker Hostel. The Bangabandhu Memorial Room was built in 1998 with rooms number 23 and 24 of the hostel on the initiative of the West Bengal government.

The Chief Justice is currently visiting Kolkata to attend the third International Bengali Conference to be held from March 8 to 10 under the initiative of Bangla Worldwide at the invitation of former Chief Justice of Calcutta and Bombay High Court, Chittatosh Mukherjee. He will also inaugurate the conference on Friday afternoon.
