Dhaka, September 16: The CNG filling stations will be closed for a total of four hours every day from next Sunday (September 19) from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, to increase gas supply to the power plants. This decision will remain in effect until further notice. Public Relations Officer (Deputy Chief Information Officer) of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Mir Mohammad Aslam Uddin said this on Wednesday (September 15) night.

As per the previous decision, the government had decided to close CNG stations for a total of six hours every day from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. But in the face of objections from CNG station owners, that decision was changed.

The public relations officer said that in order to maintain uninterrupted power supply to the gas-based power plants as per the demand, the supply of gas to the CNG stations will be stopped for four hours from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm on daily peak hours from September 19.

In a virtual meeting held on July 19 in the presence of the Prime Minister's Adviser on Power, Energy and Mineral Resources and chaired by the Minister of State for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on short, medium and long term planning of gas demand and supply of gas based power plants, it was decided that CNG stations should be kept closed during the daily peak hours of electricity.

In view of this, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources said on September 13 that the government has decided to keep CNG stations closed every day from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm. The decision will remain in force from September 15 until further notice.

But that afternoon, the concerned ministry withdrew the date of implementation of the decision.

According to a press release issued by the ministry in the afternoon, Petrobangla will hold a meeting with the concerned stakeholders at 11:00 am on Tuesday to discuss the implementation of the decision.

Later in the meeting, the CNG station owners proposed to keep the stations closed for three hours every day from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The meeting ended without any decision. At the end of the meeting, the Ministry of Energy changed the decision based on the opinion of the owners.
