Conjoined twins Labiba-Lamisa separated after surgery

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, March 22: Finally, after a successful surgery, conjoined twins, Labiba and Lamisa, have been separated.

They were operated on at Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital around 7:45 pm on Sunday. Both have regained consciousness.

The surgery was performed under the supervision of Dr. Ashraf-ul-Haq Kajal, Head Professor of the hospital's Department of Child Pediatric Surgery. Dr. Asit Chandra Sarkar, Head Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery, and other doctors were also present during the surgery.

Earlier, Labiba-Lamisa were taken to the operation theater of the neurosurgery department of DMCH at around 8.30 am.

The conjoined twins Labiba and Lamisa, the daughters of construction worker Md. Lalmia and Manufa Akhter from Jadunathpara village in Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari, were born on April 15, 2019.

Nine days after their birth, their family brought the twins to DMC Hospital. From then on, the treatments were going on, on the advice of the doctors. On November 28 last year, the twins were admitted to the pediatric surgery department of DMCH. Since then, Labiba and Lamisa, two-and-half years old twins, have been under the care of doctors.
