Dhaka, August 20: Ministries and departments have been directed to issue recruitment notice with age exemption for the affected candidates to enter the government service as the recruitment process is stalled due to coronavirus (Covid-19) infection. The directive was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday (August 19).

The directive was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the proposal.

The Ministry of Public Administration has asked the ministries, departments and agencies to fix the maximum age limit of the candidates on March 25 last year in a notification to be published by December 31. This means that after March 25, 2020, those who have reached or are over 30 years of age to enter the job, will be eligible to apply in the recruitment notice issued by December 31.

In this case, the job seekers got maximum 21 months exemption in case of age due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The letter said that the ministries / divisions and their subordinate directorates / offices and statutory / autonomous / nationalized institutions could not issue notification for direct recruitment in various categories of government service (excluding BCS) due to Covid-19 situation. In the notification to be published till December, all the concerned Ministries / Departments have been requested to take necessary steps by fixing the maximum age limit of the candidates on March 25, 2020.

At present the age limit for entry into government service is 30 years, in the case of children of freedom fighters it is 32 years. First and second class jobs are recruited through the Public Service Commission (PSC). The responsibility of appointment in the third and fourth class posts lies with the concerned government department.

In the first phase of the coronavirus pandemic, the government waived the age of job seekers affected by the general holiday. Those who turned 30 after March 25 last year were given the opportunity to apply for government service for the next five months, i.e. until August. But the lockdown has been going on since last April. Ministries, departments or agencies are not able to advertise for jobs.

The pandemic has further increased unemployment. Organizations working to raise the age of job seekers have said that the minimum age of several lakh job seekers has passed due to the lockdown.
