Cox's Bazar: Thousands flock to beach to take part in country's largest Durga idols immersion

Dhaka, October 16: At three o'clock on Friday afternoon, one by one, officials of 304 marquees started gathering at Labani Point on the beach with the idols. Not only Hindus, people of all religions flocked to the beach to be a part of the largest Durga idols immersion in Bangladesh.

Foreigners also came at this time. Hindus gathered in a festive atmosphere with various musical instruments including drums, tabla and flute. They sprinkle colors on each other and rejoice. By 5 pm on a rainy day, one kilometer of Labani Point on the beach became crowded. At this time, tourists from different parts of the country also flocked to Cox's Bazar beach. The presence of locals irrespective of race and religion was also noticeable.

The people of the traditional community think that Bangladesh is a unique country in communal harmony. The district administration took strict security measures around the abandonment ceremony. In addition to the district police, several teams of beekeepers, tourist police, district detective police and plainclothes police were deployed at several levels of security.

On the occasion of the immersion, the district puja celebration council organized a function in collaboration with the Cox's Bazar municipality on the open stage of the beach. Helaluddin Ahmed, Senior Secretary, Ministry of Local Government was the chief guest. He said the idol immersion ceremony on the world's longest Cox's Bazar beach is one of the biggest events in the country. And the gathering of millions of people irrespective of race and religion in this abandonment ceremony proves once again that this country is a country of communal harmony. He also said that the present government is determined to maintain communal harmony. Advocate Ranjit Das, President of District Puja Celebration Parishad presided over the function.

It may be mentioned that Durga Puja was held in 304 mandapas in Cox's Bazar district. Out of which 149 idol worships and 155 ghat pujas are being held. From October 11 to 15, the police took strict security measures at the puja mandals.
