Dhaka, June 28: After the installation of speed gun and CCTV on the Padma Bridge, a decision will be taken about the movement of motorcycles.

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said this in response to a question from reporters at the signing ceremony of 2022-23 Annual Performance Agreement of all departments / agencies under the Ministry of Shipping and awarding of Integrity Award 2021-22 on Tuesday (June 28).

Regarding the closure of motorcycles on the Padma Bridge, the state minister said, "It is not an indefinite decision. It is closed now, what has been said about motorbikes will now be fitted with speedguns, CCTV meters. Maybe a new decision will be taken after they are installed."

Regarding the frustration of the launch owners due to the low number of passengers, he said, "Don't get flustered in just three days. We are optimistic. Why did we build 10 thousand kilometers of waterways? I am saying that there is a demand for it. That's why we have to spend hundreds of crores of takas. That is our target. We are not running an unplanned country. The Prime Minister is not doing anything unnecessary. I think the launch ride will be more enjoyable up front."

Asked whether he was watching politics with the opening of the nuts and bolts of the Padma Bridge, he said, "We have seen that a leader who is imprisoned for embezzling orphans' money has said that no one will go to the Padma Bridge and it will collapse. The politics of patchwork is like that. Those who follow that person will think it is true. It's like snatching a woman's jewelry from her neck."
