DGHS reports 16 more dengue cases

Dhaka, June 30: Along with a spike in Covid-19 cases and deaths, the country is also witnessing a growth in dengue patients as 16 people were admitted to different hospitals across the country in 24 hours between Monday and Tuesday morning, reports said.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), a total of 70 dengue patients are presently receiving treatment at 41 government and private hospitals in Dhaka.

Since January, the country has recorded 353 dengue patients, of whom 283 have recovered.

In 2020, health authorities in the country had reported three dengue-related deaths and 1,193 cases.

The number was worse in 2019, as official figures show 101,354 dengue cases and 179 deaths across the country.

The first dengue case was reported in the country in 2000, when 93 people died.

After a relatively dry spell, the disease claimed 26 lives and infected 10,148 people in 2018.
