Dhaka, November 5, 2023 : The 48-hour blockade called by BNP-Jamaat has started from 6 am on Sunday. However, the effects of the blockade started from Saturday evening onwards.

Since then, 4 buses have been set on fire in the capital till 10 pm.

Between 7:30 pm and 8 pm, three buses were set on fire in Newmarket, Elephant Road and Syedabad in the capital in a span of just 30 minutes. It was not initially known who set these fires. However, it is believed that the buses are being set on fire in support of the blockade. However, no casualties have been reported in these fires so far.

Miscreants set fire to another bus in front of Stadium Patal Market in Gulistan at 10 pm. However, there was no information about whether there were any passengers in the bus and what happened to the bus driver and assistant.

Talha bin Jasim, the duty officer of the control room of the Directorate of Fire Service and Civil Defense, confirmed the fire in Gulistan to Dhaka Post at around 10:20 pm. He said that two units from Siddique Bazar station of fire service reached the spot within two minutes after receiving the news of the fire at 10 pm. The fire was brought under control around 10:15 pm.

BNP, Jamaat and Awami League held a big rally in the capital on October 28. Around noon on that day, the people who came to the BNP rally started clashing with the people going to the Awami League rally near Kakrail intersection. When the police intervened there, at one point the residence of the Chief Justice was attacked and several cars were set on fire. After that, the police hurled sound grenades and tear shells and disrupted the BNP rally. Then the conflict spread all around. At one point a policeman was beaten to death and the police hospital was attacked.
