Dhaka hit by season's second nor'wester

Own Correspondent, Dhaka, April 23: Season's second nor'wester (Kalbaishakhi) swept over Dhaka on Friday. After a hot day, the sky suddenly became cloudy in the afternoon, then the wind started at 3:15 pm. As the wind speed increased, a downpour lashed the capital city.

Earlier on Thursday morning, after a few days of continuous heat wave, the people of the capital saw the season's first nor'wester. After the intense heat, Dhaka's people got some relief due to this rain and nor'wester.

The Meteorological Department said the increase in western low pressure is located in the foothills of the Himalayan region of West Bengal and surrounding areas. The normal light pressure of the season is located in the south Bay of Bengal.

According to the forecast, some parts of Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and one or two places in Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal and Chittagong divisions may experience thundershowers, while some places may get scattered hailstorms.

The highest rainfall in 24 hours was in Nikli, 26 mm. Besides, 2 mm of rain was recorded in Chittagong and Srimangal, 1 mm in Dimla and Cox's Bazar and light rain was recorded in Rangpur.
