Dhaka, March 25: A part of Korail slum has been turned into rubble by fire. The fire service believes that about 40 to 50 houses have been burnt. The furniture, cash and other goods in the houses were burnt to ashes. The residents are shedding tears while sitting on the ashes. They have lost everything in the fire.

On Sunday (March 24) after 4 pm, the fire service received information about the fire in that slum. The fire was brought under control after 4:30.

At around 7:30 in the evening, the helpless cries of the slum dwellers were seen on the ground. Milli Akhter was crying on the cement floor of the burnt house. She said, "It was a two-storey house. My two brothers lived upstairs and my family lived downstairs. My husband bought television, box bed with great difficulty. There is nothing left of the upstairs room. Everything has been burnt to ashes."

"I was at work when the fire broke out. I came and saw that everything was burnt. Couldn't find a single piece of clothing. Now what to wear, where to go, I don't know anything," she added.

Many people were seen looking to find if there is anything left of them in the burnt houses. Some were taking out iron bars and rods from the house. Many take out half-burnt goods.

Jasmin, a resident of Korail slum, said that she ran out of the house after suddenly hearing the cry of 'fire fire'.

"I went out and saw that the fire came quickly towards our house with the wind. Immediately ran away with the children. The fire burned everything. No one could save anything," she said.
