Draft to stop bullying and ragging in educational institutions

Dhaka, February 20: It has been decided to add effective provisions to stop bullying and ragging in educational institutions in the final draft of 'Education Act-201'. Under the law, all institutions from primary to higher education will be able to stop bullying and ragging. Higher education institutions themselves will issue policies or guidelines in this regard. The concerned ministry or directorate will issue policies or guidelines to take action from secondary school to college.

In addition, provisions to ensure a safe and learning-friendly environment for primary level students have been added to the final draft of the Education Act.

The draft law was finalized at a virtual meeting chaired by Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni on Tuesday (February 18th). State Minister for Primary Education Md Zakir Hossain and Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Nawfel were present at the meeting. Besides, two secretaries of the Ministry of Education were also present at the meeting.

The final draft defines bullying and bullying as the use of force or intimidation, mental or physical abuse, torture or harassment of a student of an educational institution in an open campus, a dormitory / dormitory student in the same dormitory / dormitory. To do, or to coerce or try to behave indecently or indecently, which the student would not have done voluntarily had it not been for the use of force or intimidation by the other student.

The draft law states that all educational institutions will take appropriate measures to prevent any kind of bullying / bullying by students. To prevent bullying / bullying in educational institutions, the government may from time to time formulate policies or guidelines to be followed by the educational institutions.

In case of any incident of harassment, anyone who is aware of the incident other than the victim student can inform the concerned teacher or the authorities openly or secretly.
