Earlier on Sunday, after the sixth meeting of the Search Committee, Justice Obaidul Hasan, the head of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, spoke to reporters. On that day, he said, the names of 10 people from the list of recommendations would be finalised in the seventh meeting on February 22, and the finalised names would be sent to the President. He said the names would not be released. According to the law, the Search Committee cannot reveal the names. After reaching the hands of the President, the names can be revealed if the President wants.

Justice Obaidul Hasan said although there was an opportunity that the Search Committee could propose names along with the received recommendations, they were not implementing it. The 15 working days of the search committee will end on February 27. However, the head of the committee hopes that the committee will complete its responsibilities by February 24.

Earlier, the Search Committee held meetings with 47 eminent citizens of different classes and professions in four phases on February 12, 13 and 14 to seek advice on the formation of the EC.

Since independence, this is the first EC to be formed according to a law. For this, on January 27, the appointment of Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners Bill-2022 was passed in the Parliament.
