EC Formation EC formation: Search Committee receives 322 names
Own Correspondent, Dhaka, February 15: The Search Committee constituted to form the new Election Commission has received 322 names as recommendations for the posts of the Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners. Among them are academics, economists, writers, journalists, retired judges, former bureaucrats and retired army-police officers.
A list of 322 names from the cabinet division was released on Monday (February 14) night. Shafiul Azim, joint secretary of the cabinet division, confirmed the information. He said, "The Search Committee has recived 322 names as recommendations. The list of the names is available on the website of the Cabinet Division."
Academician and literary professor Abdullah Abu Sayeed, former chief information commissioner Prof Dr Golam Rahman, journalist Ajay Dasgupta, human rights activist Advocate Sultana Kamal, Dhaka University Law Department Professor Md. Mizanur Rahman, Academician Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal, Dhaka University Professor Syed Manjurul Islam, Former Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University AAMS Arefin Siddique, Former Election Commissioner M Sakhawat Hossain, Former Secretary Abu Alam Shahid Khan, Retired Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury Manik, Former Chairman National Human Rights Commission Kazi Riazul Haque, Former caretaker government adviser Rasheda K Chowdhury, Former Senior Secretary Kazi Habibul Awal, Former Secretary Kamrun Nahar, Former Secretary Agriculture Md. Nurul Islam, Chairman of Ad.com and former caretaker government's adviser Geeti Ara Safia Chowdhury, former Election Commissioner Sohul Hossain, former Chief of Army Staff General (Retd.) Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan, Former Secretary Ashok Madhab Roy, Journalist and Writer Abu Saeed Khan, Former Information Secretary Abdul Malek, Former Chief Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, Former Chairman of Public Service Commission Ikram Ahmed, Chairman of the Demand for Safe Roads (Nirapod Sorok Chai) Ilyas Kanchan and Former IGP AKM Shahidul Haque were among the 322 recommended names.
Besides them, names of Bangla Academy President Fiction Writer Selina Hossain, Senior Lawyer Dr Shahdin Malik, Fashion Designer BB Russell, Women Rokeya Kabir and others were also recommended for the EC posts.
